KATY DOWNING
Turning Chaos into Comedy Gold.
Katy Downing began her career in New York theater, where she trained with some of the most respected names in the craft, including Earle Gister, Chris Bayes, Catherine Fitzmaurice, and Slava Dolgechev at The Actors Center, as well as The Shakespeare Lab at The Public Theater. She went on to workshop intimate projects like Bone Songs (Andre Gregory, NYTW) and spent summers at Chautauqua under the direction of Ethan McSweeny and Vivienne Benesch. One of her most memorable stage roles was portraying Honey in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, where she discovered her innate ability to make audiences laugh in unexpected ways.
Now based in Los Angeles, Katy is a proud member of Pacific Resident Theater, where she has appeared in numerous productions, including Theresa Rebeck’s What We Are Up Against, playing Janice—a character who “followed all the rules…until the rules changed.” Her performance in Fostered earned her praise for her “serious comedic chops,” cementing her natural talent for both drama and comedy.
In addition to her stage work, Katy is actively expanding her presence in television and film. She has recently taken her humor to the stand-up stage, performing at Flappers and the Kookaburra Lounge. Currently, she trains with Gregory Berg for acting and Killian for commercial work, continuing to deepen her craft while captivating audiences with her visceral, authentic performances.
